For the web presence creation assignment, I have chosen
blogger as my main platform for my blog rather than Wordpress and other
blogging websites. This is because I feel that blogger is more user-friendly
and fun as compared to the others and does not require a very steep learning
curve in order to get used to it. The three contributing nodes which I have
made use of in my blog are Facebook, Google and Twitter which are all Web 2.0
tools. The reason for the creation of this blog is to share what I have
discovered and researched on the Internet with other people all around the
world along with maintaining some form of a hobby. References for every post
will be included regarding information obtained and pictures. Another reason
for my creation of the blog is because I would like to have an online journal
with which I can make posts from time to time (White and Biggs, 2011).
The main reason for selecting Food Science as my particular
topic is because I enjoy a more creative form of cooking which not only
includes the cooking part but also in preparing the dish and looking at other
aspects like mixing drinks together. It serves as a fun way to delve into the
culinary world with a mixture of science. Food Science has greatly made an
impact on today’s world and have departments in plenty of countries which serve
to try and produce healthier alternatives to the food served today along with
enhancing the food served to us. Food Scientists serve in many ways to try and
benefit our society as food is one of life’s necessities and as such, it needs
to be carefully controlled and enhanced to include more nutrients or to find
cheaper means of preparing it. Creativity also plays a very important role in
food science in the aspect of cooking and mixing as this allows for the
numerous unique dishes which are available in certain parts of the world or to
put a spin on classic dishes which we have seen and eaten in our everyday
lives.
People viewing my blog can expect to learn about how food
science have started and how it has developed over time. In the blog, snippets
of information regarding how food scientists make dishes and molecular
gastronomy and molecular mixology prepare and use various techniques and
gadgets in order to aid them in preparing the unique dishes.
The first contributing node which I have chosen is Facebook.
One of the main reasons why I chose Facebook as a contributing node is because
I will be able to link the posts which I have made to my friends and family and
also to expand the network because most people nowadays are on the social
networking site for extended periods of time.
The second contributing node which I have selected is
Twitter. Twitter is aimed at focusing on blogs and thus, helps me in
maintaining my posts by keeping them alive. Once a post is finished, I am able
to tweet it on my Twitter account which will then quickly notify my followers
instantly and efficiently. These current posts will lead to a lightweight but
meaningful connection called ambient intimacy between myself and my followers(O’
Reilly and Milstein, 2009).
The third contributing node which I have selected is Google.
Google is one of the most vast and popular seach engines but it also has a
networking system within it. Those who blog on Blogger make use of Google
accounts as well as those who make use of YouTube. As such, with this extended
network, I will be able to inform and notify as many people as possible by
using this contributing node.
